Blueshell Mussels Limited; A family business formed in 1997, has grown to be one of the significant industry players in Shetland.The business consists of 8 mussel growing sites, found in 3 of the pristine "Voes" in Shetland, yet, at the furthest, 6 miles from the plankton enriched waters of the Atlantic Ocean. -These sites are amongst the cleanest for secondary fouling in Shetland as well as consistently yielding excellent meats.
In 2005 the company will open its purpose built mussel grading centre, which is capable of handling in excess of 2000 tonnes per year. (In 2004/05 Blueshell graded 1007 tonnes from Blueshell's own farm as well as a further 9 farms, (733 of these were sold by SSMG) - incidentally The total Shetland production was in the region of 2200 - 2400 tonnes.)
By offering other farms the grading service, The farmer is able to focus on site production and growing mussels efficiently. Instead the labour intensive grading is carried out by Blueshell's excellent, hard working, dedicated and conscientious staff, who harvest, grade, clean, inspect and pack the mussels to the required specification. -Blueshell is committed to continually accommodate the requirements of our customers.| Contact Details | |
